CWCA News: Action items for snow storm this weekend

Dear CWCA Residents,

We are writing to ask for your help for the upcoming snow event this weekend.

CWCA contracts with JL Tree to supplement snow plowing done by VDOT and to sand/salt icy areas to allow vehicles to drive into and out of the neighborhood. CWCA contracts for plowing after an accumulation of three inches of snow. CWCA does not and has not historically plowed curb-to-curb. To do so would be prohibitively expensive, time and resource intensive, and risks damaging mailboxes and curbs.

Since snow is forecast on Saturday and Sunday, we are asking for your help as follows:

1) Move your car(s) off the street — on-street parking is a significant problem when clearing cul de sacs and all streets in general. Our plow contractors work to avoid plowing anywhere near a parked car to avoid damage to your vehicle. This is applicable to the day of the snow/ice event and one or two days after the event. If you move your car back on the street before plowing has been completed, it may mean that your cul de sac won’t get plowed.

2) Please move any bags/brush off the pavement/street and onto your grass. The county does not pick up yard waste from Christmas through the end of February. Once brush and yard waste are covered in snow, it creates a hazard/issue for the plows. (Be sure to also bring in your recycling/trash cans before snow starts tomorrow).

3) CWCA does not clear blocking vegetation or downed power or telecom lines — only snow and ice from the sky. If you see downed lines, please immediately contact Cox or Verizon for downed communication lines and Dominion Power for downed electric lines. If lines are down, the plow contractors will avoid plowing that section of the street.

4) If experiencing an emergency event, please contact 911 directly – CWCA is unable to offer plowing service specific to emergency events.

5) VDOT will also be plowing, but does main roads first. VDOT uses plow contractors when they are in our neighborhood. If you have a complaint about a plow, please look for the JL Tree sign on the side of the truck. We do not have contact or influence over any other plow companies. You can contact Supervisor Bierman’s office at DranesvilleBOS for more information on VDOT plowing.

6) If you want to email us about a concern, please email chesterbrookwoods which goes to the CWCA Leadership (and not to the whole neighborhood). Recognize there are limited labor resources available to us. Our first priority is to provide access to as many homes as possible as quickly as possible after snow and ice events.

Thanks in advance for your assistance and understanding. And, a big thank you to Steve who manages the snow clearing process for Chesterbrook Woods!

p.s. Some neighbors haven’t paid the $40 dues yet (which were announced Oct 2025). Now would be a good time to do that because well be spending money to plow! Contact Susan Garrahan if you aren’t sure if you’ve paid yet.

Here are three easy ways to pay:

  • By Zelle – send $40 payment to susan.garrahan. You will see “Chesterbrook Woods Citizens Association” after you enter that email address. Enter the dues amount and include your CWCA address (# and Street) in the memo section so we can credit your household.
  • By PayPal — Go to paypal.me/chesterbrookwoods and send $40. Include your name and CWCA street address in the “What’s this for?” memo, so we can credit your household.
  • By Check — Make your $40 check payable to “CWCA” and include your street address, so we can credit your household. You can bring your check or mail it to Susan Garrahan at 1714 Oak Ln, McLean, VA 22101.
