Tree Champions Program
The County program is a great way to increase our tree canopy. We’re collecting orders until July 22nd for 2026. Look for the email from CWCA Tree Champions on ordering procedures or send an email to cwcaenvironment@gmail.com.
CWCA Environmental Day planned for August 22/23
The CWCA Environmental Committee is planning a CWCA-wide Environmental Day for August 22nd or August 23rd to share environmental successes and lessons learned. The day’s activities will include a range of topics, such as solar installations, battery storage systems, removal of invasives, rainwater management, and, of course, lemonade. If you are interested in sharing an environmentally-friendly success or hearing about a particular topic, please contact cwcaenvironment@gmail.com.
If you have lemonade stand entrepreneurs in your household, please also let us know so we can get them on the map. Watch for more details ahead.
Monthly Meetings
The CWCA Environmental Committee meets the second Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. via Zoom. If you are interested in participating or would like to have the committee address a particular topic, please send an email to cwcaenvironment@gmail.com.

Invasive Plants Control
Now is a good time to focus on invasives so they can be removed before flowering. Make sure to dispose of them in the trash rather than composting or in your yard waste bin. For a list of the most pernicious invasives in Fairfax County, refer to

Recycling Refresher
What goes in the recycle bins for regular pickup?
- Mixed paper, including magazines, junk mail, coffee cups and sleeves
- Collapsed cardboard (Styrofoam, peanuts, bubble wrap are considered trash)
- Clean, loose, and dry metal food and beverage cans
- Clean, loose, and dry plastic food and beverage bottles and containers
(Note: clamshell containers, even plastic, are considered trash)
What does not go in the recycle bins but can still be recycled?
- Plastic bags can be dropped off at any grocery store
- Glass bottles can be dropped off in the purple bin at the Dolley Madison Library or the lot behind the Madison Community Center
- Metal coat hangers can be dropped off with most dry cleaners
- Household hazardous waste can be dropped off at the I-66 Transfer station or I-95 Landfill
